چکیده

The development of neurons and virtually all other cell types in the organism depends upon interactions with molecules in their environment. Studies of individual cell types have revealed tremendous diversity in the molecules that regulate the development of cells in the nervous system. These include chemotropic and trophic factors [e.g. nerve growth-factor (NGF) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)], cell adhesion molecules [e.g. the neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) and N-cadherin], and molecules secreted into the extracellular matrix (ECM) [e.g. laminin (LN) and fibronectin (FN)]. Each class of molecule has now been shown influence major steps in the development of the nervous system, including neuronal survival, determination, and migration; axonal growth and guidance; synapse tbrmation; and glial differentiation. As molecules in the

Extracellular Matrix 2 : Role of extracdllular matrix rnoiecui # { 243 } and their receptors in the nervous system

Extracellular matrix molecules help regulate many aspects of neural development, including survival, migration, axon growth, and synapse formation by neurons. These same molecules have been shown to modulate regeneration of neurons after injuries. They also regulate the development and differentiation of other neural cells, such as astroglia and Schwann cells. Significant progress has been made...

Laminar Organization of Cerebral Cortex in Transforming Growth Factor Beta Mutant Mice

Transforming growth factor betas (TGF?s) are one of the most widespread and versatile cytokines. The three mammalian TGF? isoforms, ?1, ?2, and ?3, and their receptors regulate proliferation of neuronal precursors as well as survival and differentiation in neurons of developing and adult nervous system. Functions of TGF?s has a wide spectrum ranging from regulating cell proliferation and differ...

Fibronectin (FN) is one of the essential component of the extra cellular matrix and their important role is as regulator of cellular activities and also fibronectin is an important scaffold for maintaining tissue. Fibronectin conformational changes expose additional binding sites that participate in fibril formation and in conversion of fibrils into a stabilized, insoluble form. In fact fibrone...

Extracellular matrix: functions in the nervous system.

An astonishing number of extracellular matrix glycoproteins are expressed in dynamic patterns in the developing and adult nervous system. Neural stem cells, neurons, and glia express receptors that mediate interactions with specific extracellular matrix molecules. Functional studies in vitro and genetic studies in mice have provided evidence that the extracellular matrix affects virtually all a...

Role of the extracellular matrix during neural crest cell migration

Development of the neural crest involves a remarkable feat of coordinated cell migration in which cells detach from the neural tube, take varying routes of migration through the embryonic tissues and then differentiate at the end of their journey to participate in the formation of a number of organ systems. In general, neural crest cells appear to migrate without the guidance of long-range phys...
